George Hume

George Bryant Hume, age 90, of Palo, died Thursday, February 1, 2018, at his hime, with his family at his side.

George was born February 12, 1927, in New Haven, West Virginia, the son of Andrew D. and Mary Ann (Ballard) Hume.  He married Marlene K. Stowell on January 1, 1982 in Lake Odessa.  He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, and then worked for Federal Mogul for 24 years before owning George’s Amusement Company and half owner of King George’s Lounge, while working in the auction business as well.  George was a jack of all trades.  He loved being an auctioneer, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends at his lake home.

George is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marlene; his children, Michael Hume of Palo, Patty (Kelly) Whitelock of North Dakota,  Peggy Sue McClure of S. Daytona, Florida, and Lucy (Tom) Wohlscheid of Fenwick;  10 grandchildren;  13 great grandchildren; his sister Sharon (Doug) Nelson; and his brothers-in-law, Doug (Doris) Stowell, Lanny (Carolyn) Stowell; his sister-in-law, Colleen (Ron) Cobb; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Hume; his brother, Andy Hume;  and his sisters, Lucille Hume and Virginia Greathouse; his son-in-law, Bob McClure; his sister-in-law, Charlene Wright; his parents-in-law, Sam and Helen Stowell; and his grandson, Todd Spicer.

Funeral services with military honors will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 5, at the Barden Funeral Home in Stanton, with Pastor Shane Prewitt officiating.  Interment will follow in Palo Cemetery.  Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 4, at the Barden Funeral Home.
