He was born and raised in Gratiot County and attended school in Ashley. He owned Clare’s Total and was an automobile mechanic for many years, oiled roads and plowed driveways for many people.  He could fix anything and improvising was his specialty. He bowled for several years and enjoyed many years of fishing at Bear Lake with long-time friend Fred Schaub.  He loved gardening and selling extra produce at his curbside stand at his home, sharing it with friends and family along with canning and freezing his bounty. He enjoyed two lengthy travel trips touring national parks along with several visits to Texas and California to see relatives. He also traveled to Florida, Alaska and Spain. He took a hunting trip to Wyoming and fishing trips to Canada. He loved to keep busy with fixing motors, repairing things, yard work, planting tulip bulbs, wood cutting and helping the kids or others. He delivered Meals on Wheels for a time and enjoyed the Senior Activity Building and all the people.

He was devoted to his family and cherished the holiday and birthday celebrations with all the food and family present.

A special thank you to the staff at Rosewood, Joe Barden and Jo Jones. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Senior Activity Building, Ithaca, Michigan.

Funeral services for Clarence will be 2pm, Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Jo Jones will officiate and burial will follow at Ithaca Cemetery. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m going to miss watching him outside tinkering on his projects and doing his yard work. He did make me a little nervous though when he was on a ladder washing windows.

Sorry for your loss. I had a great time visiting and reminiscing with Clare at Rosewood. I will miss him - he could fix anything with a motor. A lot of knowledge now gone.

Our deepest sympathy to all of the family. We could always rely on Clare to fix our vehicles perfectly. Remembering his fresh vegetables in the wagon for sale. He raised a beautiful garden. We know he will be missed!
