Duane Earl Swainston
Duane Earl Swainston of Alma, formerly of Brimley and Sheridan died on Tuesday December 8th at Masonic Pathways with his family at his bedside.
Duane was born in Montrose, Michigan to Orton William Swainston, and Louise (Kreeger) Swainston on July 31, 1939. He grew up in Sheridan, and graduated from Sheridan Agricultural High School, and Montcalm Community College. On June 10th 1961 he married the love of his life, the former Sydney Sue Jagnow. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. After his discharge from the Marines, he went to work at Sheridan Community Hospital as a lab and xray technician. He later worked at Edmore Hospital. In the mid 70's Duane went to work for the Michigan Department of Corrections and continued until his retirement.
Duane was much loved by his friends and family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and sharing his love of cars by taking them to car shows and taking them for rides in his 55 Chevy. He also enjoyed setting up his model trains and letting his grandchildren play to their heart's content.
Duane is survived by his daughter Stacey and son-in-law, Nick Snyder of Sheridan, his grandchildren, Abigail Braman, Naomi (Ron) Immer of Sheridan, James Snyder of Six Lakes and Hope Snyder of Sheridan; and his great-grandchildren, Kiley Braman, Dane Braman, and Spencer Snyder. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and his brothers Leroy Swainston and Gary Swainston.
Funeral services will be 11a.m, Saturday December 19th at the Barden Funeral Home in Stanton. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Masonic Pathways in Alma.
